You’d have to be brave to take on writing a prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, a movie that’s become a classic and has spawned so many theories as to what it’s all about it even spawned the recent documentary, Room 237.
However Warner Bros. is keen to make The Overlook Hotel, filling us in on what happened before Jack Torrance and his family took up residence. Kubrick’s movie certainly offers a lot of jumping off point, with endless hints at the strangeness that’s caused mayhem in the hotel for decades, but any explanation is likely raise the ire of fans.
Warner thinks they’ve found their man in the form of Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara, according to Deadline. The deal’s still in the making and could fall through, but the studio is hoping everything will come together.
There’s no specific details on the movie. A smart move might be to look at event not covered in the earlier film, although we’d bet that the film someone looks at Delbert Grady’s massacre of his family and perhaps how that ties into the old lady in Room 237.
