The passing of the hideous anti-gay laws in Russia have resulted several filmakers responding with movies that look at the issues and repurcussions of rules that supposed ‘protect’ minors from ‘non-traditional’ relationships, but have resulted in violence and extreme prejudice against LGBT people.
Water Boys is the latest addition to the trend.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘New anti-gay laws have just been approved in Russia. After a competition in St. Petersburg, Italian swimmer Massimo meets a Russian his own age. Vladimir works as an interpreter for the delegation of which Massimo is a member. The two men fall in love, but they will have to face the cultural barriers between them, as well as old and new macho stereotypes.’
TLA Releasing will bring out the movie on DVD in December, but you can get a taste with the trailer below.
