What is feminist porn? It’s a question many people wouldn’t even know where to start with, partly because (straight) porn and feminism are often presented as being completely antithetical to one another. However, many feel that the divide between the two is an artificial one, and that porn can be made from a feminist perspective and without the objectification of women that is often so problematic in normal porn.
A one-off event at The Book Club in London plans to take a look at this, with ‘Feminist Porn: where to find it and how to feel good watching it’.
The owner and director of Dreams of Spanking, Pandora Blake, will guide attendees ‘through the wild and wonderful world of feminist porn. As a queer pornographer and sexual liberties campaigner (as well as a lover of tea, cats and caning), Pandora will discuss how you can access porn that turns you on but doesn’t make you feel as though you’re contributing to exploitation. Come along to discover the world of porn which exists outside the male gaze, and learn more about what it means to work in the porn industry as a feminist. #SuperCulture Sex Ed for Grown Ups, a new series of events on sex, sexuality and gender – from science to strip-tease. And because you’re a fully fledged adult now, you can do all of this with a drink in-hand.’
The event takes place at The Book Club on Leonard Street in London on August 31st, starting at 7.30pm. You can book a ticket on the website.
